Hazardous Materials Technician

Provide technical safety office and field support for the Hazardous Materials Program to include duties such as receiving request for hazardous chemical and bio-hazard waste pick-up, picking up the waste, coordinating storage and recycling/disposal of waste, providing response for chemical spills and technical and/or active assistance in clean-up efforts. Also provides technical safety office and field support for the Radiation Safety Program and assistance and support for the Environmental Health Program.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology or other natural science
Working knowledge and understanding of chemistry, radioactive materials and hazardous materials programs
Must possess a valid driver’s license with no more than three moving violations in the last two years
Must be able to successfully complete the NDSU Radiation Safety Short Course and a 40 hour HAZWOPER training within six months of hire as a condition of continued employment
Ability to use technical equipment associated with areas of responsibility of the position
Ability to research new technologies and their related safety issues
Must be able to pass a fit-test for respirator usage
Demonstrated excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
One or more years of directly related experience in a full time capacity or equivalent
Knowledge and understanding of the NDSU campus and facilities
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of applications, especially Outlook and Excel
