The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute invites applications for a traffic safety research position. This is a part-time (24 hours per week), benefited position that is currently funded for one year. The position will be reviewed for continuation based on funding opportunities. The UGPTI offers an exciting opportunity to pursue research and professional development in activities that focus on transportation. The candidate seeking to join us for this position will be involved in a wide range of rural traffic safety issues. The individual will have the opportunity to utilize his/her strengths in contributing to a growing program of research and knowledge transfer. Exceptional communication and organizational skills are essential. Specific responsibilities include:
(1) Conduct research projects and complete deliverables,
(2) Develop and make presentations to public and academic audiences,
(3) Provide quarterly reports of work progress and deliverables, and
(4) Participate in professional development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:
• B.S. degree and least 5 years of job experience in at least one of a broad range of disciplines including communications, education, political science, criminal justice, transportation, and related fields, will be considered
• Job experience with interviews, surveys and focus groups
• Demonstrated understanding of fundamental statistical calculations and interpretation
• Applied job experience with professional writing and public presentations
• Job experience with providing customer service and/or conducting public meetings
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications:
• M.S. degree in one of the fields named above
• Mixed methods proficiency, including experience with SPSS or SAS statistical packages
• Experience working with tribal communities
• Understanding of and experience in traffic safety community
• Grant proposal and research writing experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of transportation issues and policies
