With the genuinely helpful nature of our community, it is no surprise that many area startups look to personal connections as a great way to improve their business while also being an active participant in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Here are several helpful hints on how to better engage.
This non-profit’s mission is to connect and celebrate the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Fargo Moorhead. They are the leader in many initiatives such as Grand Farm, StartupBREW, Autonomous Nation, Prairie Capital Summit, TEDxFargo and the Prairie Den coworking space. Our homegrown StartupBREW Fargo kicked off in 2021 and replaced the niche previously serve by our 1 Million Cups, which had been the largest in the nation, consistently attracting 125+ attendees each week, with some weeks as high as 350! Often referred to locally as “church for entrepreneurs”, these events serve almost as a town hall gathering a vast collection of friendly and engaged citizens.

As mentioned above under Emerging Prairie (EP), the Grand Farm started through EP and continues to gain more & more steam. Connections via Grand Farm are often most relevant if you are in the agricultural, agtech or food space, and their events may appeal to an even broader audience at times.
Plug And Play North Dakota
And speaking of agtech, Fargo is home to the Plug And Play North Dakota agtech accelerator. If you are a startup working in that area, check out their focus areas and how to apply. Minnesota has a great food-biz support ecosystem and Grow North works to create an interconnected, sophisticated, invested, and accessible ecosystem for entrepreneurs and innovators across food and agriculture. Their primary focus is Minnesota but they encourage North Dakota-based food entrepreneurs to join their membership and support system.

GFMEDC is involved with organizing or sponsoring various competitions throughout the year such as Startup Weekend, Established.us Startup of the Year, Spark Your Startup Idea Pitch, NDSU Innovation Challenge & more. As a participant, these are great events to build exposure and fine-tune your ideas. As a spectator or volunteer, they are an interesting way to learn more about area innovators and provide valuable feedback.
Other opportunities to let some Fargo-Moorhead-serendipity run its course
Our community is often jam-packed with events and trainings, as we are a friendly & creative community of doers and activators. You may run into people like this at events like Full Stack Fargo, Creative Mornings Fargo, Stampede, Ladyboss Midwest and First Fridays, just to name a few. Connections are always plenty as well at our many coffee shops and breweries/wineries.
