Marketing the Fargo region to new businesses in the intersection of agriculture and unmanned aircraft systems

Good economic development strategy supports existing industry growth while capitalizing on new opportunities driven by technology innovations.

In the Fargo Moorhead MSA, we sit in a unique position at the convergence of significant emerging industries including agriculture technology, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and autonomous systems. The global market for autonomous systems is estimated to be worth $54 billion in 2019 and projected to increase to $557 billion by 2026. The UAS market alone was valued at $18 billion in 2017 and projected to reach $52 billion by 2025.

The GFMEDC’s focus on this high growth sector takes advantage of the region’s unique position as a leader in production agriculture, ag technology and equipment development and as a global leader in enabling UAS deployment. There is a tremendous amount of opportunity to innovate at the intersection of agriculture and unmanned systems.

Our region boasts some of the world’s richest farmland, the brightest minds in agriculture research and development, and leading ag. equipment developers like Amity Technology, John Deere Electronic Solutions, Appareo Systems, and CNH Industrial to name just a few. We are one of the global leaders in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) research, testing and development. Companies from around the globe are looking to the United States as the biggest marketplace to deploy these new technologies, considering when and where to establish their U.S. headquarters.

That’s why the FM Economic Development Corporation will continue to work with partner organizations like Emerging Prairie, Grand Farm, the Northern Plains UAS Test Site and local private-sector companies to invite and host prospective companies, organize events and attend industry conferences to promote the advantages to doing business in Fargo Moorhead.
